A book to delight one's sense of adventure. Take an armchair journey with me as I head out across North America. We will travel into the winderness a month at a time to camp, hike, journal and photograph this extraordinary land. Sensitive to Light is a book reliving adventures from five years of my solo camping/writing excursions. Below is an excerpt from the book, taken from my journal . . .
8/22/2000: Colorado
"Days are going to start flipping by. Long hike to Black Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. There are so few people in the park now. I came across some hikers coming down as I was heading up, after a long while of seeing no one and they tell me "You're almost there!" But 'almost' is so relative and I find that I am NEVER almost there. I get to Black Lake which is very cold and now the clouds look as if they are about to break open and pour on me. As I head back, I pass three guys. I tell them "You are not too close, you are not too far." A little zen riddle for them and they laugh. It is all in the way you hike and the weight of your pack. My way of saying you'll get there when you get there."
